On April 25, 2004, Mary and her sisters Deb and Andy set out on a trip to Russia.
The video is 2.0G, unedited; it contains 58 minutes from the trip plus some TV shows leftover on the VHS tape:

The VHS tape was digitized by connecting a VCR to our Canon ZR40, which has a D->A converter and produces DV out its firewire/1394 port. Then it was captured and converted to SVCD format using ffmpeg:
$ ffmpeg -t 2:00:00 -f dv -i /dev/dv1394/0 -target ntsc-svcd 'Russia 2004 Trip'.mpg
ffmpeg describes the results as:
Input #0, mpeg, from 'Russia 2004 Trip.mpg': Duration: 01:59:59.9, start: 0.500000, bitrate: 2290 kb/s Stream #0.0[0x1e0]: Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 480x480 [PAR 4:3 DAR 4:3], 2516 kb/s, 29.97 tb(r) Stream #0.1[0x1c0]: Audio: mp2, 44100 Hz, stereo, 224 kb/s
A couple frames were extracted and resized; see Makefile for details.
